Expedition Donations are the monies we collect each year from each family to offset the costs of fieldwork and other expedition related expenses.  These donations may be made online either in one payment or in ten monthly installments, beginning in July.  Payments may also be made in cash to Cissy in the main office, or by using your debit or credit card with Cissy.  Click here to make your donation online.

may be downloaded here and printed out and returned to the school in order to be cleared to drive on fieldwork.  A copy of the DECLARATIONS PAGE of your vehicle insurance (not the evidence of insurance card)  must be attached to this form and you must have at least $100,000/$300,000 in liability to qualify as a driver, although $300,000/$500,000 is recommended.  Please see the instruction form for more infomation.

Pizza Sales Every Thursday:Student Council hosts school wide pizza sales every Thursday. Pre-orders need to be placed before school on Wednesday and Thursday mornings at tables in the main hall outside the school office. Choices are Miner Moe’s cheese or pepperoni, regular or gluten free.  Prices are $3 a slice, or 2 slices for $5.

Hot Lunch Program:  Our school’s hot lunch program is run and adminstered by Central Kitchen, which services the schools in our area.  All monies go directly to them and billing comes from them.  Mealtime: Central Kitchen offers Mealtime,an online way to manage your child’s school hot lunch purchases.  Please click here for more information or to sign up: MealtimeMonthly menus are available here: Central Kitchen hot lunch menu

School Closures: In the event of heavy snow, dangerous driving conditions, power outages, or any other event when school may be canceled, please tune into the local radio station, KNCO (830 AM) or STAR (94 FM).  Please DO NOT call the school office!

Charter Document:  Since opening our doors in 1993 our enrollment has steadily increased to over 500 students even as many other local schools have seen student population declines. Strategic Plan The Grass Valley Charter School Strategic Plan is a three year plan that provides a framework for education at our school from 2013 through 2016. There are five performance areas covered in the plan: Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, Culture and Character, and Leadership.

Parent Involvement:  Our service work, academic success and adventures outside the classroom are all dependent on parent involvement.  Our parents help us in the classroom, provide community expertise, act as chaperones during fieldwork, and help us in a myriad of ways.  Parents of GVCS students are asked to join our learning community, and they love it!  

Parent Leadership Group: In order to foster and coordinate parent involvement, a Parent Leadership Group  will meet regularly. This group will support teachers and GVCS by compiling parent survey results, forming subcommittees of parent volunteers, and by being the “place to go” for any parent wanting to volunteer at GVCS. Their activities will be directed by the school administrator and overseen by the Charter Council.

  • Promoting Internet Safety – Information parents should have about the Internet with tips for safe Internet browsing.   Created by Lori Thompson at Ready Spring School.
  • KDCOP guidelines – KDCOP, has been training parents, teachers, law enforcement and other community organizations nationwide about online dangers since 1999. 

211 Nevada County is a resource and information hub that connects people with community programs and services through a free, 24/7 confidential phone service and online database.  211 serves the entire population of Nevada County and provides help both in English and in Spanish.
